The Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded that the Liberhan Commission report on the demolition of the disputed Babri Masjid at Ayodhya in 1992 be tabled in parliament.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded on Wednesday that the Liberhan Commission report on the demolition of the disputed Babri Masjid at Ayodhya in 1992 be tabled in parliament.

The demand came even as the party appeared slow in reacting to the submission of the report to the government. In fact the CPI(M) politburo held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the development in Honduras, where the government of president Manuel Zelaya has been overthrown in a military coup, and party general secretary Prakash Karat told DNA that he would comment on the Liberhan report only after seeing it.

On Wednesday, however, the CPI(M) got its act together and demanded the tabling of the report in parliament.

“The demolition of the Babri Masjid by constituents of the Sangh was one of the greatest crimes against the secular character of our constitution,” the party said in a release. Attacking the Congress, it also questioned the role of the central government.
