Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and his team including Swami Agnivesh, Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal will visit the city on May 26.
Hazare along with his team is visiting various cities in the country to discuss and consult citizens' views and expectations on the draft of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Prominent civil society activists and organizations have come forward to greet Hazare. Veteran journalist and activist Prakash N Shah said, "Anna and his colleagues have chosen to visit Ahmedabad from more than 230 cities, who have invited them.
Ahmedabad is one of the 10-12 cities where Anna is visiting.
They will be meeting intellectuals and people from grassroots as well." He said while the team is visiting mainly for public consultation on the draft of Jan Lokpal Bill, civil society activists will also be discussing other issues related to development of Gujarat.
Mallika Sarabhai, activist and danseuse, Sudarshan Iyengar, vice-chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, Gautam Thaker, general secretary of People's Union for Civil Liberties, DN Rath, coordinator of Lok Andolan Gujarat will be present in the meeting.
Mallika Sarabhai said, "No NGOs will be meeting him, only those from grassroots who are involved in some kind of public movement will be meeting Anna. They will be coming from various parts of the state like Dangs and Kutch. It is a single point agenda against corruption and we don't want to politicize the issue. There will not be any elected politician or active political leader on the dais."
One of the members, on condition of anonymity, said representatives of organizations like VHP, RSS tried to contact them for meeting Anna, but they were told that they can come and attend the function as an individual, without banner of any organisation.
