Taj Mahal, the Mughal-era monument, is in news all over again. This time, it’s about the colour of the historical monument, which is among ‘Seven Wonders of the World.’
After rebuke of the Supreme Court, the Narendra Modi government has decided to conduct colour stereography to determine the exact colour of Taj, a Times of India report said on Monday.
Under this scientific study, two identical photos of a monument are seen via special glasses or a stereoscope that forms a single 3D image.
‘We have original photographs of the monument that are over 100 years old and the same will be compared with pictures taken after cleaning of the monument to measure the changes,’ Union Minister Mahesh Sharma was quoted as saying by the TOI.
The news comes a day after the Centre adopted a ‘Taj Declaration’ on Sunday. The pact has been adopted as part of the effort to make 500-metre area around the historic monument litter-free and phase out single-use plastic.
According to an official statement, a pledge was taken to make the 500-metre area around the Taj Mahal litter-free and take steps to phase out single-use plastic from the area.
Earlier, in February, Taj was embroiled in a controversy over a Lord Ram-based dance drama at the Taj Mahotsav.
Before that, BJP MLA Sangeet Som had stirred a controversy last year when he had publicly stated that the Taj Mahal was “built by Mughal traitors and “it was a blot” on the Indian culture.
He had drawn flak from all corners for his utterances. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had to clarify that Taj Mahal was a world famous heritage building and pride of India to end the controversy.
Later, he also paid a visit to Taj Mahal to settle the row.
