Dadri lynching case: Akhilesh Yadav announces Rs 20 lakh compensation for victim's family

Eight people were arrested earlier after public outrage over the killing.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 20 Lakh to the kin of 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched for allegedly possessing beef. Earlier, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also met the victim's family.

Meanwhile, two main accused in the lynching case, Shivam and Vishal, were arrested on Saturday, raising the total of the number of accused in the case to eight. According to reports, Vishal is the son of local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary Sanjay Rana.

The deceased Mohammed Aqlakh's elder son Sartaj, who is an Air Force personnel, had appealed to politicians and the media to not disturb the family during their time of grief.
