Dalai Lama to inaugurate conference in Gangtok in December

The conference is expected to lay the foundations for Sikkim’s efforts to formally introduce concepts of morals and ethics to its school curriculum.

The Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama will inaugurate a four-day conference to be held here in December.

The four-day conference "Brain and mind, our potential for change: Modern cognitive sciences and eastern contemplative traditions" is being organised by the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology(NIT).

Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling in a letter to the Tibetan spiritual leader thanking him for accepting the invitation to attend the conference conveyed to him that the Sikkim government intends to follow up the conference proceedings by introducing moral ethics in Sikkim's schools and colleges, NIT sources said.

The conference is expected to lay the foundations for Sikkim’s efforts to formally introduce concepts of morals and ethics to its school curriculum, they said.

The proposed conference will be attended by leading academics, scientists, thinkers and religious leaders.
