MUMBAI:  A concert with the theme of 'Harmony for humanity'  will be held in Goa on Monday in memory of slain US journalist Daniel Pearl.

According to an announcement here on Friday, the concert by the US-based Eli Yamin Jazz Trio is being sponsored by the American Center, Mumbai, in association with the Goa Kala Academy, Daniel Pearl Foundation-India and Radio Mirchi.

The Goa concert, scheduled at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir in Panaji, will be a precursor to the Seventh Daniel Pearl World Music Day, an annual event held worldwide in honour of the late journalist on Oct 10, his birth anniversary.

Pearl, the Mumbai bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal, was on an assignment in Pakistan when he was kidnapped and later killed on Jan 30, 2002.

Pearl, a lover of music, was a violinist, fiddler and mandolin player who would join music groups in every city he lived in, before he was killed at the age of 38.

"The universal language of music helps to build bridges all around the world and the US Government is proud to participate in celebrating Daniel Pearl's legacy through this concert," said US Consul General in Mumbai Paul Folmsbee.

The Eli Yamin Jazz Trio, consisting of Eli Yamin (pianist and composer), Ari Roland (bass) and Adrian D'Souza (drums) will also perform at a special concert in Ahmedabad Saturday to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the American Corner there.

Another of these concerts will be held in Pune.
