Days after announcing the new front, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday formally quit BJP.
"I hereby resign from the primary membership of BJP. Long association (with BJP), painful decision...my wife, children and party not, Punjab alone (comes) first. Punjab, Punjabiat and every Punjabi must win (sic)," Sidhu said in his letter.
Last week, playing the cards close to his chest, Sidhu launched 'Awaaz-E-Punjab', attacking the Akali- BJP combine, Congress and the AAP but gave no indication about who he will align with in the Assembly elections.
Sidhu had dubbed the AAP, with which he was widely speculated to be eyeing a tie up, as 'anarchy in the garb of democracy' and said its leader Arvind Kejriwal wants only 'yes-men'.
He had also accused Kejriwal of speaking "half truth" as he was told to not contest but only campaign.
Sidhu had said that in the next 15-20 days he will come out with the front's future plan.
Sidhu, who quit his Rajya Sabha seat in July, said in the present system the option before the people is to 'choose from bad or worse..we want to change that'.
Aawaz-e-Punjab is a Inklabi (revolutionary voice), which calls upon all good people to come together and pull out Punjab which is on the brink of disaster," he said, adding that 10-15 leaders will become an example before Punjab.
