Usually, Holi heralds the beginning of spring. But for Amdavadis it seems that the festival of colours brought with it an unusual dip in temperature which added to the mirth.

If you are wondering why the woollens are out again, it is because Friday recorded the coldest day of March since 2002, at 10.5 degree Celsius, seven degrees below normal. Across the state, Naliya recorded the lowest temperature at 8 degree Celsius, closely followed by Deesa and Gandhinagar at 10 degree Celsius.

It should be noted that the all time lowest temperature recorded for the month was at 9.4 degree Celsius on March 2, 1982.
The lowest temperature recorded in the last decade was when mercury plummeted to 11.6 degree Celsius on March 11, 2010.

However, Met department has predicted that the temperatures will go up by a degree or two in the next two days. "The fall is due to the passing off the western disturbances but temperatures are likely to rise in the coming days," said Kamaljit Ray, director IMD, Gujarat.

The maximum temperature for Saturday is likely to be around 33 degree Celsius while the minimum is likely to be around 13 degree Celsius.

"It has indeed been an unusual weather although I must admit I am liking it. Perhaps it is because I like winter. It is rare for March to be this cold, particularly after Holi. Thankfully we hadn't packed our woollens," said Ruchi Marshall, a student and resident of Sola.

"I find the change in weather very uncomfortable. I was forced to wear my windcheater when I went to work. I was hoping to aside my woollen clothes since it is March, but with such weather I don't think it will be a wise decision at this point," said Krupa Gandhi, a resident of Ambawadi.
