Delhi Assembly Polls 2020: BJP releases election manifesto, promises wheat flour at Rs 2 per kg

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released its election manifesto, called the 'Delhi Sankalp Patra', ahead of the Delhi Assembly Election 2020. The manifesto was released in the presence of Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javadekar, Harsh Vardhan, and other BJP MPs.

The manifesto includes promises on issues like women's safety, better road connectivity, housing and development, and transgender issues. It also promised to sort the issue of unauthorised colonies in the national capital.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said that over 11 lakh people had been consulted before issuing the manifesto. He also promised a host of other things if the BJP is voted to power in the elections, including "good quality wheat flour at Rs 2 per kg for the poor population" and "tap water to every home to rid Delhi of its tanker problems."

"Further, the Aam Aadmi Party has stopped three major union government schemes in Delhi - Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Pradhanmantri Aawas Yojana, and Kisan Samman Nidhi. As soon as the BJP government is elected in the state then we will implement these schemes in Delhi. We will form Delhi Yamuna Development Board and we will start Yamuna Aarti as well like Vrindavan and Mathura," the Delhi BJP chief added.

It is to be noted that no political party has issued their election manifestos until now. The BJP had, as a part of their campaigning for the Legislative Assembly Elections, adopted a unique strategy, titled 'Meri Dilli, Mera Sujhav', prior to announcing the issue of their election manifesto.

The BJP had driven 49 buses across Delhi, campaigning for the elections, and asking the Delhi populace for their suggestion on what to include in the manifesto. It is being said that the strategy had been adopted by the BJP's Delhi unit to better understand the demands that the people of the Union Territory have from their government.

The campaign involved Union Minister Smriti Irani, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and other leaders of the saffron camp like Vijay Goel and Hans Raj Hans.

Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 8 while counting of votes will be conducted on February 11. 

The ruling AAP is locked in a triangular contest with the BJP and the Congress but is favourite to retain the Union Territory. 

The Kejriwal-led AAP had won 67 seats in the 70-member assembly in 2015 assembly elections, defying all expectations. While the party hopes to repeat its performance.
