The BJP’s Delhi unit is set to discuss its strategy for the upcoming Assembly election, scheduled for next year, at a meeting of its extended executive committee on Sunday, July 7, 2024. According to a party leader, the meeting will take place at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium and will be attended by more than 2,000 people, including district and ward-level functionaries.

The BJP has not won an Assembly election in the national capital for over two decades, while the AAP has secured consecutive victories in 2015 and 2020 with significant majorities. Currently, the BJP holds eight seats in the 70-member Assembly, whereas the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP has 61 seats. Raaj Kumar Anand, the MLA from Patel Nagar, was disqualified after he quit AAP to contest the Lok Sabha election on a BSP ticket.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal is slated to address the meeting, as mentioned by the party leader. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva stated that several political resolutions will be passed during the meeting. "In addition to expressing gratitude to the people of Delhi and party leaders for the BJP’s overwhelming victory in the Lok Sabha election in the city, there will be a discussion on the upcoming Assembly poll as well," Mr. Sachdeva added.
