Justice Rajiv Shakdher sought response from the government and police, saying the court would 'examine balancing the right of media and how a trial has to be conducted in rape case'.

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the city government and police on the plea of journalists seeking access to the court proceedings of the trial into December 16 gang-rape of a 23-year-old paramedic student.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher sought response from the government and police and said the court would "examine balancing the right of media and how a trial has to be conducted in rape case".

Legal journalists filed the petition saying their "fundamental right of freedom of speech and expression" is being violated. "My right as a responsible media reporter is violated," said the plea. The journalists moved the court saying the trial court issued a gag order restraining media from attending and publishing the news related to the gang rape case.

The high court posted the matter for hearing on February 13.
