The Delhi high court today asked the police to give protection to a couple who got married against the wishes of the parents of the bride.
"The Delhi police are directed to provide security to the petitioners (the couple)," Justice A K Pathak said.
Disposing of the plea filed by the couple, the court said life and personal liberty of the petitioners be protected and directed the SHO of Vijay Vihar police station here to keep in touch with the couple.
The court, however, asked the couple to keep the police informed about their whereabouts and movement, if any.
The petition, filed through advocate S S Dahiya, said the man, hailing from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, eloped with his girlfriend and married at a temple in here against the wishes of her parents on February 3.
"Now they fear for their lives as the parents of the bride want to lodge criminal cases against her husband and they be protected," their lawyer said.
The court allowed their plea and asked the police to protect them during their stay here.
