Chaotic scenes of violence surfaced from the Delhi Civic Centre once again on Friday. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors jostled and manhandled each other, exchanging blows. The brutal ruckus was recorded on camera amid a third day of commotion in the MCD House. Several videos surfaced showing councillors punching, shoving and even kicking each other.
Amid clashes between the AAP and the BJP, one AAP councillor Ashok Kumar Maanu collapsed. He later said to the media, “They are so shameless that they attacked even women and the Mayor. BJP goons did this."
From the BJP, Harish Khurana said, “Election officers declare the election and say that votes declared invalid by Mayor are valid and 3 candidates each of AAP and BJP have won. But AAP does hooliganism here as instructed by Kejriwal. We won't tolerate this goondaism and approach the Court.”
The AAP has alleged that Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi was “attacked and physically assaulted” by a male BJP councillor.
AAP leader Atishi said, “Today BJP showed goondaism in the Civic centre. Standing committee election was going on. When counting started BJP realised they were losing & they created ruckus. The mayor was attacked & physically assaulted by the BJP male member.”
“What behaviour is this? This is shameful and condemnable. The country is seeing this. BJP should accept their defeat. I request BJP to stop their goondaism. Those who have attacked the Mayor will be sent behind bars,” she added.
BJP’s Vijender Gupta accused AAP of tampering with poll results and making wrong announcements. He said, “Election results are being tampered, wrong announcements being made and they're indulging in fistfights. Several of our Councillors were injured. FIR is being lodged. The manner in which they've been beaten up, AAP has shown that they are a party of goons.”
