Delhi Metro today began trial run of the first train that has been procured for Phase-II on the main line, an official release said here today. The trial run was carried out between 3 AM and 4 AM this morning between Dwarka Sector nine and Dwarka stations.
This broad gauge train had been airlifted to India from Germany recently, it said.The trial runs will continue for a few weeks during non-revenue hours during which the train will be run at different speeds to check wheel alignment, physical checking of wheels, emergency brakes and electronic systems on board.
The train has several additional features such as CCTVs inside and outside the coaches and power supply points for charging mobile phones and laptops, the release said.
The train is expected to be inducted soon into operations on Yamuna Bank-Dwarka Sector nine, which has witnessed a 4.4 per cent rise in commuters since the opening
of the Yamuna Bank station on May 10.
A comparison of the average daily commuters from the period May one to nine and May 11 to 18 shows that use of metro has increased from 2,99,925 to 3,13,092.
Another broad-gauge train for Phase-II is being airlifted to India from Germany in the last week of May or first week of June. A third train has arrived in Mundra port in Gujarat by ship from Germany and is being brought by road to Delhi while
the fourth train is expected to arrive at Mundra next week.
