SRINAGAR: Denied party ticket for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly poll, Corporator Tanvir Sadiq on Monday quit the National Conference and announced his decision to contest as an Independent.

Tanvir said he was upset over denial of party ticket to him from Zadibal constituency in Srinagar and would contest as an Independent from there.

Zadibal constituency is going to polls in the seventh and final round of the state assembly poll on December 24.

The NC led by Omar Abdullah has fielded Peer Afaq Ahmad from Zadibal.

Tanvir claimed his name was recommended by party's local election committee to the NC High Command which ignored the recommendation.
