On Monday, Deoband city Qazi, Mufti Azhar Hussain said they wouldn’t conduct Nikahs at weddings where music and dance took place. He said that DJs were also not kosher and such wedding would be boycotted.
Mufti Azhar Hussain was quoted saying by ANI: “We won't conduct 'Nikah' in weddings where music and dance is happening, and DJ is there. This is against Islam, will boycott such weddings. If the music and dance happened before the nikah ceremony and qazi didn't know then it’s different.”
Earlier, the Deoband ulemas issued several fatwas including against women who wear designer burqas and 'body-hugging' outfit is not allowed in Islam and is considered a 'haram'. "Veil and burqa are supposed to protect a woman from prying eyes. So, a woman wearing designer burqa or body-hugging outfit is strictly not allowed in Islam," the fatwa read.
In another incident, the freedom of Muslim women in the country was curtailed further by the Darul Uloom Deoband when it imposed a ban on Muslim women uploading their photos, including selfies, on social media platforms. The fatwa was issued when a Muslim man sought to know if his wife can post and upload her pictures on social media. In response to the question, Darul Iftaa opined that Islam does not allow Muslim women to show their faces in public.
“Islam does not allow Muslim women to be photographed. Uploading and posting their picture on Facebook, Whatsapp etc is against the tenets of Islam and Sharia. They are not allowed to show their faces to other males,” Mufti Tarikh Qashmi said.
