Against the backdrop of prime minister Manmohan Singh convening a meeting of chief ministers of Naxal-affected states, Congress today said that development and strong actions should go together to counter the Maoists.
"Our stand on the issue is clear. It has two approaches which has to go together. There should be full economic support, rehabilitation and infrastructure development. At the same time, there has to be a strong action against those involved in killings," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.
He said both have to go "hand in hand in a holistic manner".
In the meeting of the CMs of Naxal-hit states, it was decided that the four states (Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa) worst affected by the violence will have Unified Command structures to fight the menace as the Centre offered more helicopters and logistical support to states in their anti-Naxal operations.
