The German Bakery blast did not have the traditional Indian Mujahideen (IM) imprint. Was some other outfit involved too? Security agencies believe IM could have outsourced the preparation of the bomb to some other group.
The analysis of the bakery blast has divulged a pattern different from the 2007 Mumbai train blasts, also a handiwork of the IM, highly-placed home ministry sources disclosed.
The Pune blast is bereft of the casket-like structures which the earlier IM-related explosions possessed. Also, shrapnels were not used in this case, the sources said.
“The involvement of IM in the Pune blast is certain. But we are still not certain whether the explosive was designed by the outfit. There is a stark difference in its impact compared to earlier blasts
involving the IM,” the sources added.
The fact that the original bomb-makers of the IM have either been eliminated or arrested has led the security agencies looking into the possibility of the outfit having sought the assistance of some other agency. “We are not ruling out the possibility of IM having done some kind of outsourcing for making bombs,” the sources added.
The preliminary analyses of the Saturday blast has also revealed that most of the fatalities were caused by the impact of the pieces of stone benches and steel furniture.
“Pieces of the stone benches hit most of the victims and there were few injuries caused by the shrapnels from the explosives,” the sources added.
