Diwali or Deepawali in sanskrit literally means a row of lights. 'Deep' meaning oil or clay lamps and 'Awali' means row, hence row of lights. According to the Hindu lunar calendar Diwali is celebrated on the 15th day of 'Kartika maas' the holiest month as stated by Hindu mythology. 

This year the Pradosh Kaal Muhurat for Laskhmi Puja starts at 7:36 PM and ends at 8:25 PM. The Vrisabha Kaal starts at 7:26 PM and ends at 9:24 PM.

The Mahanishita Kaal Muhurat for Laskhsmi Puja on Diwali 2017 starts at 11:40 PM and ends at 12:31 AM on October 20,2017.

The auspicious Choghadiya Muhurat is from 6:28 AM to 7:53 AM. The night muhurat is from 12:06AM to 12:41 AM on October 20.

Meanwhile, Kali Puja Nishita time Amavasya Tithi begins at 12:13 AM on October 19, 2018 and Tithi ends at 00:41 on 20 October 2017.
