DMK and AIADMK on Friday demanded that the Government support a US-based resolution at the UNHRC condemning killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka and institution of an independent inquiry.
Raising the issue in Rajya Sabha soon after it met for the day, Tiruchi Siva (DMK) said students in Tamil Nadu are on agitation. "The state of Tamil Nadu is burning," he said.
Government of India, he said, should support the UN resolution condemning war crimes and demanding institution of an independent inquiry.
He asked the government to spell out the stand it will take in Geneva.
V Maitreyan (AIADMK) said students will intensify their agitation after March 22 and the government should strengthen the US resolution by condemning the genocide.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla said the government was equally concerned about the student agitation in Tamil Nadu and added that he will convey feelings of the House to the External Affairs Minister.
Ranbir Singh Gangua (INLD) raised the issue of MPs and MLAs not being allowed to meet Om Prakash Chautala and his son, who are in jail on being convicted by a court in a teacher recruitment scam in Haryana.
PC Gupta (RJD) supported him saying it is unfortunate that MPs are not allowed to meet their leader.
