Three girls, who had been sent to the Mahila Vikas Gruh in Paldi, ran away from the protection home on Monday morning. While the
authorities have filed a missing complaint with the Ellisbridge police, the father of one of the girls has lodged a complaint of atrocity against the home.
According to Ellisbridge police, Jyotsna Makwana (19), Rekha Vanjhara (18) and Shruti Nayak (18) ran away from the gruh on Monday morning. They had been sent there following court orders.
Gruhmata Narmada Charula said: “The trio used to harass newly arrived girls. On Monday morning, they hurt one of the girls. When we approached their room to question them, we saw them running towards the back wall. They climbed the steps, got to the roof of the wall, and then jumped out. We tried to catch them but could not. Soon we heard the sound of an autorickshaw.”
She said: “We think the drama was pre-planned. Many a times, we had caught them with cellphones provided to them by their lovers and seized them too, but somehow the lovers would manage to slip in the phones again and again,” Charula added.
The police have recorded the statements of caretakers and other girls of the home. “We have also procured the mobile numbers of their lovers and have summoned the girls’ parents to record their statements. At present, our focus is on tracing the girls,” said Ellisbridge inspector JB Gadhavi.
