The agreement on a formal divorce between Shoaib Malik and Ayesha Siddiqui may have spared their families a prolonged legal battle, but there are several questions that beg answers. Neither the peace makers nor the parties involved, including Malik, are willing to answer these at this point.

Who did Malik divorce? Was it Ayesha or Maha Siddiqui? What has Ayesha gained out of the deal?  Why did Malik lie about his first marriage since divorce itself gives sanctity to the marriage? Was Sania aware of the first marriage? Is she willing to carry on with the status of second wife?

Granting divorce to Ayesha itself is being seen as an admission by Malik that he did marry the Hyderabad girl, rendering all that he said in his defence so far as pure lies.

According to highly placed sources privy to the developments in the Malik-Ayesha dispute, the Pakistan cricketer was literally pushed to a corner after the police teams started investigating the allegations levelled by Ayesha. The material evidence produced to support her allegations would have made Malik’s arrest imminent.

“The evidence that was made available to the police and the contradictions in the statements given by Malik on different occasions would have made police arrest him for further questioning. Maybe the lawyers of Malik were aware of such a danger,” the source explained.
