Noted scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar has been elected as Fellow of the US National Academy of Inventors (NIA). He is the first ever Indian working in India who is elected as Fellow of NAI. Till date, there have been only 724 NAI Fellows.
Dr Mashelkar has been elected for his contributions for pioneering the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Innovation movement in India. Dr Mashelkar would be inducted as Fellow of NAI on April 6, 2017 in Boston.
Dr. Senberg Paul, the NIA President sent a message to Mashelkar saying, "The NAI Fellows selection committee has chosen you for induction as you have demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society."
Speaking to DNA, Dr Mashelkar said that he was happy since it was an international recognition for his efforts to bring about patent literacy movement in India. He said it was important since it was the first time the honour had been given to an Indian working in India.
