"Too many women in too many countries speak the same language of silence".
This was a line from a poem which was recited by US secretary of State Hillary Clinton while making her point on the need for women's emancipation across the world.
Clinton first heard the poem, written by Anasuya Sengupta, a then Delhi University student, when she had come to India as the US first lady 14 years ago.
Clinton was so impressed that a chapter in her 2003 autobiography was inspired by the poem. The chapter is called “Silence is Not Spoken Here”.
Anasuya is now an activist for women's rights was present today at DU's convocation hall when Clinton was interacting with varsity students.
The US secretary of State said she feels that a country's progress is linked with the development and opportunities presented before its women.
