Duties of police have expanded manifold, says J&K top cop

Jammu and Kashmir Police have been upgrading the functioning of all training institutions in the state as the duties of police have expanded manifold, Director General of Police Ashok Prasad said. "The duties of a policeman have expanded manifold making imperative to re-orient the training institutions and sensitise the personnel about the challenges posed by criminals and latest methods of crime control," Prasad said.

He said that police has been upgrading the functioning of all training institutions to introduce latest training courses and sharpen the skills of its personnel. "We have been upgrading the working of all training institutions of the organisation to introduce latest training courses and sharpen the skills of our personnel," he said.

The officer was addressing the passing out parade of the third batch of basic recruits at Commando Training Centre Lethpora, 21 kms from here. He said the duties of a policeman have expanded manifold making imperative to re-orient the training institutions and sensitise the personnel about the challenges posed by criminals and latest methods of crime control.

The DGP asked the recruits to keep their pledge and perform in the field by maintaining high standards of discipline, valour and dedication. "Policeman, a visible face among the public and first responder to any situation, has to come up to the expectations of people by curbing the crimes and evils, besides ensuring peace and security," he said.

Earlier, 675 trainees including 27 postgraduates and 164 graduates, presented a colourful march past and took oath to service the nation. Besides the regular training, the pass outs were imparted training in computer handling, fire fighting, disaster management, interpersonal communication, problem solving skills and police community relations during their training, a police spokesman said. He said they were also deployed for law and order duties during their training.

Constable Arif Bashir, who was declared all round best in the training, was granted out of turn promotion and decorated with the rank of selection grade constable by the DGP on the spot.
