NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has issued notices to two Communist Party of India (Marxists) Members of Parliament seeking their replies by July 7 on a Trinamool Congress petition accusing them of holding offices of profit.
Notices have been issued to Bansagopal Chowdhury and Lakshman Seth, both Lok Sabha members, as the information sought by the EC from the petitioner was complete, EC sources said.
The EC is likely to close the office of profit case pertaining to Nilotpal Basu, the party's Rajya Sabha member, since his term in the Upper House has ended, the sources said.
Ten CPI(M) MPs, including Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterejee, have been accused by Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy of holding offices of profit. The other MPs are Mohd Salim, Hannan Mollah, Amitava Nandi, Sudhanshu Sil, Tarit Baran Topdar and Sujan Chakraborty.
