Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Wednesday said the Election Commission (EC) had behaved with him in a manner even worse than what the British used to treat us before independence and charged the Congress of giving in to the fascist forces.
"Even after my reply sent to the Election Commission before its notice the EC did not even bother to see my reply and did not allow me to present my explanation, so the EC declared action against me beforehand which was against natural justice, hence they must accept their fault. Atleast the English did a complete trial of Bhagat Singh before punishing him, but in my case without trial I have been hanged," Khan said.
"I want to once again reiterate that the Congress has to a great extent been able to achieve what it wanted so that our words do not reach across to the people and that the democratic traditions are violated. It did not implement Sachhar Committee report. I want to say that the Muslims had the option to migrate to another country but we did not go as we loved this country. It is our muslim community who gave up their life just like the others by fighting against our enemy; a country which was created on theocracy, but still they called our people as agents of ISI. We just want this tag to be removed but once again the Congress has helped the fascist forces and sided with them instead of allowing me to give my explanation. At the same time what the Election Commission has done is an injustice to me. They are not even following the constitutional norms. They have enforced not only on me but also on others an undeclared gag on what one wants to say," Khan added.
Election Commission ( EC) of India has banned Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan from addressing any public rallies after he made "highly inflammatory speeches" during election campaigns.
Azam Khan stirred a controversy when he said that Muslim soldiers solely won Kargil war and not Hindu soldiers.
His remark was seen as an attempt to polarise the voters a day before Uttar Pradesh was getting ready for elections. (ANI)
