Bharatiya Janata Party leader Meenakshi Lekhi on Friday took strong exception to the intimidating comments made by Congress candidate from Saharanpur, Imran Masood on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

"Whosoever, is making hateful comments which amounts to intimidation, is a violation of Indian Penal Code (IPC) offence. An FIR needs to be registered under intimidation and threatening somebody with death and that's a serious offence. Hence, Election Commission should file an FIR and take cognizance of his offence and his candidature must be cancelled," Lekhi said.

"When he says that there are 4% muslims in Gujarat which is a false statement. The percentage of muslims in Gujarat is about10% and from those 10%, twelve percent muslims are in government service so he better check his record. If there are 42% of muslim population in Uttar Pradesh according to him, then he better know that there are just 15% of muslims who are represented in government service. This is their condition this kind of mindset of jehadi and wahhabi ideology will not work here as this is a secular constitution," Lekhi added.

The video by India TV which has reportedly gone viral, shows, Congress candidate from Saharanpur, Imran Masood saying, "UP is not Gujarat. There is only 4% Muslim population in Gujarat but in UP there are 22% Muslims here. I will fight against Narendra Modi because I know how to give a fitting reply to him. We will cut him into pieces."
