Election Commission to ensure postal votes don't get invalid

To ensure that government officers, security staff and drivers on duty do not miss out on voting, the state election commission has identified dates for polling through postal ballots and also provided training to its officiating officers so that such votes do not get disqualified. The office of the chief election officer will be directly monitoring the postal ballots.

About 1.1 lakh people, including security staff and civilians, are expected to be on election duty in Delhi. They will be posted at 11,763 polling stations across the city on December 4, the day of polling.

In the past elections, postal ballots would often be rejected while counting, for not being filled up properly. To avoid any repeat of such incidents, the election commission has this year identified nodal officers to teach the voters on filling postal ballots preoperly. “The nodal officers have been trained on how the postal ballot needs to be filled. The nodal officers will guide the others for the same,” said Ankur Garg, Joint Election Commissioner.

The civilian staff on election duty will cast their vote from November 24 to 27 and the security staff from November 25 to December 1. To keep a check on the system, the office of the Chief Election Commission will be directly monitoring the postal ballots.

“The chief election commissioner will be keeping a check on the whole process to ensure that the postal ballots are correctly filled and all the staff on election duty cast their vote,” added Garg.
