Election Commission to visit Kolkata to oversee election preparations

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S Y Quraishi along with two election commissioners, V S Sampath and H S Brahma, will come to the city on April 28, a day after the third phase of elections to be conducted in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Kolkata.

The Election Commission in full strength will visit the city next week to oversee the election preparedness for the last three phases of Assembly polls in West Bengal, an EC official said here today.
   
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S Y Quraishi along with two election commissioners, V S Sampath and H S Brahma, will come to the city on April 28, a day after the third phase of elections to be conducted in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Kolkata, Additional Chief Electoral Officer N K Sahana told reporters here.
   
"They will have a meeting first with the political parties and then with the District Magistrates, SPs, DIGs, IGs and Divisional Commissioners of the seven districts which are going to polls in the fourth, fifth and sixth phase", Sahana said.
       
He said the EC team would review preparedness for the elections in the next phases. The seven districts which are going for the polls in the fourth, fifth and sixth phase are Howrah, Hooghly,
Burdwan, East and West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
   
"Then he will have a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and DGP," Sahana said. The team will hold a press conference at the end of the visit, Sahana said.
