Electric engine train on Pathankot-Jammu Tawi track from next month

The Northern Railway would start a train run by a electric engine on the Pathankot-Jammu Tawi track from next month.

While reviewing electrification of the track between Pathankot and Jammu Tawi at Pathankot Railway Station, Commissioner Railway Security (CRS) RK Kardam said on Tuesday that the trial of electric engine on the track was success.

He also inspected the Bharoli junction, Sujanpur, Kathua, Heera Nagar, Samba and Bari Brahman where electric centre have been installed. The work for electrification on Jalandhar- Jammu Tawi-Katra 280 km long rail track was started in 2006.

The track was connected to Jalandhar to Pathankot, Pathankot to Jammu Tawi and Jammu Tawi to Katra in first, second and third phase respectively, he said. A sum of Rs 100 Crore was spent on the track to electrify it from Jalandhar to Katra, he said.

The electrified track from Jalandhar to Jammu Tawi has been completed and the remaining track from Jammu Tawi Katra would be completed till June next year, he said.
