The Satellite police on Wednesday arrested an electrician for the alleged eve-teasing of a British citizen pursuing a project with a city-based non-government organisation.

Pragnesh Patel, a resident of the Jodhpur gaam area of Ahmedabad, was arrested after the victim filed a complaint at the Satellite police station, alleging that the incident took place when he had gone to her house to fit a fan.

The British citizen, who lives in a rented home in Satellite, had earlier asked the owner of the house to install a fan on the premises. Patel had been called by the homeowner to fit the fan and had gone there at around 5 pm on Monday.

“On finding that the victim was alone at home, Patel started abusing her and also tried to touch her and even rape her,” senior inspector of the Satellite police station, MH Vasani said.

Vasani further said that the girl had been shocked to find the aggressor being so abusive when she had been alone in the house. Vasani, however, refused to comment on the identity of the victim.

The British citizen filed a complaint with the police late on Tuesday night after first reporting the incident to her colleagues and the NGO, located at Shivranjani crossroads, where she has been pursuing a project on an environmental topic.

“She is in the city for the next months and so, we will try to complete the case as soon as possible,” Vasani said. The police will submit a chargesheet in the case soon.
