One soldier was injured in the initial exchange of firing with militants who later succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Kashmir.

On Friday morning, an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Hanjin Rajpora area of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. Joint security forces include personnel of the Indian Army, the Pulwama police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.

As per media reports, an army jawan has been killed in the encounter. According to the officials, the security personnel have cornered the terrorists in the Hanjin Rajpora area of Pulwama.

As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.

The Pulwama encounter saw heavy firing from both sides. One soldier was injured in the initial exchange of firing with militants who later succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Kashmir.

"Encounter has started at Hanjin Rajpora area of Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," tweeted Kashmir zone police.

The official said three to four ultras were believed to be trapped in the encounter. There were no reports of any casualties so far on either side barring one jawan who died from injuries.
