Talib Hussain, the face of the Justice for Kathua rape and murder victim campaign, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman.
Talib, a lawyer and social activist, was arrested after the complaint was filed in Samba police station in Jammu division on Tuesday. A case has been registered under Section 376 (rape) of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and 4/25 Arms Act
The woman said that Talib, who is related to her, raped her one-and-a-half months ago when she was grazing cattle in the Chadwa jungles. "He thrashed me on the ground, tried to rape me and inserted a finger into my private parts," she said. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone, the FIR says.
"I was too scared to tell anyone," her application to the police says, "Today, I told the whole story to my husband."
Station House Officer (SHO) Chanchal Singh said Talib will be produced before the court on Thursday for remand. "He was arrested in Kashmir and he was handed over to us today (Wednesday)," he added.
Talib was arrested in January for leading the protests demanding justice to the eight-year-old tribal nomad girl who was abducted, gangraped, killed and mutilated. Police had then blamed him for creating a nuisance by blocking the highway.
