Social networking website Facebook (FB) has once again proved its ‘connecting’ abilities when SpiceJet gave in to fans’ repeated requests on FB page to increase frequency of flights out of Surat. The aircraft carrier will now provide additional flights to New Delhi, Mumbai and Mangalore from the diamond city.

‘We want a working airport at Surat’ - this group on Facebook played a vital role in making airline companies mull on starting air services out of Surat. The group, which boasts more than 2,000 members, have continuously been voicing their opinion for better air-connectivity to Surat.

“We have been getting several messages to start flight services from Surat. We respect feelings and attachments of our fans and their trust in SpiceJet. In order to fulfil their demands, we have decided to start flight operations from Surat,” said Neil Mills, CEO, SpiceJet.

SpiceJet, which has a page to its name on Facebook, has more than three lakh fans on it. Company also received numerous requests for flights connecting Surat with important cities in the country. They have already declared ticket prices for these new flights.

A SpiceJet air ticket from Surat to Mumbai will cost Rs999 while a flight to New Delhi from the city will cost Rs1,499. Rates will remain unchanged for next few months.
