In the wake of continuous unrest in Allahbad University over hostel issues, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has now decided to intervene, and constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the issue and submit its report soon.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday asked the officials and students in the university to maintain calm, assuring them that the ministry is looking into their issues.
“My appeal to all stakeholders of Central University of Allahabad to observe peace. I have formed a fact-finding committee to investigate, and the committee will submit the report in a couple of days. I will then take necessary action. So all cooperate,” Javadekar said on Monday in a series of tweets.
There has been a lot of unrest in the university campus for the past few days, over the eviction of students from the university hostel. As per a recent order by Allahabad high court, the university has been directed to vacate hostels by May 25 for maintenance work. The university had claimed that though the institution urgently needed repair work, it could not be taken up earlier as rooms are occupied throughout the year.
The university officials recently started getting the hostel vacated. Students in the university opposed the eviction and went on a rampage. A group of students, led by office bearers of the students’ union, had on Friday surrounded the university’s guest house.
