Eminent farmers' leader and founder of 'Shetkari Sanghatana' Sharad Joshi died of old age today.
He was 81.
Joshi floated Shetkari Sanghatana a non political union of farmers in 1979 to fight for farmers' cause and hogged limelight with an agitation of onion growers in 1980 to demand remunerative prices for the produce.
He was also member of Parliament from Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha from 2004-10. He also served on the advisory board of the World Agricultural Forum (WAF).
Joshi is survived by two daughters settled abroad.
