IB officers feel publishing such book may stoke new controversy as there is bound to be political ramifications about certain controversial steps taken in the past.

A plan to shed light on history of India's premium internal investigation agency Intelligence Bureau may never come to light now. According to a Hindustan Times report, IB is now having second thoughts about publishing an official version of its history.

Till now stories about IB or RAW are only known, once a retired officer decided to write a memoir, or recollection of a particular phase of his service career. The likes of BK Raman, MK Dhar in the past and AS Dulat recently created flutter through their revelations in the books. But there has been no official version of history of either of the organisations so far. To fill the void a committee was formed in the past and it was decided that help of retired officials will be taken to compile the history, something in the lines of what British spy agency MI5 did.

But the project never really took off. Now IB officers feel publishing such book may stoke new controversy as there is bound to be political ramifications about certain controversial steps taken in the past. The organisation may be  forced to defend decisions taken many years ago. According to the HT report, IB officials feel that it will be difficult to rationalise decisions like why Subhas Chandra Bose's family was tracked after Independence- which was done at that time for national interest. Also any uncharitable comment about political leaders may not go down well with the party to whom he/she belonged.

Keeping in mind all these consideration, IB's plans of a memoir look well and truly in deep freezer.
