From the coming session, tuition fee for central government-run Kendriya Vidyalaya is all set to witness a steep hike.
According to sources in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, following a recent meeting of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), the body that manages these schools, it was decided that the fee will be hiked from the current Rs 600 per month to Rs 1,600 per month, but no official announcement has been made yet.
"Keeping in mind all the factors, including the price rise and escalating cost of education, it was discussed that fee should be hiked. It has been a long time that the fee was revised, hence, this was decided and the KVS members have agreed to it," said a source privy to developments.
The last fee hike was introduced in 2013, when the fee was increased from Rs 290 per month to Rs 600 per month. This hike, though a long time coming, is likely to affect those who come from the lower income class. KVs are situated all over India and are directly under the HRD Ministry.
