A fire broke out in a Thane building on Friday afternoon. However it was doused and nearly 150 people were safely evacuated.
Preliminary information says that the fire broke out in a building called Girija Heights in Naupada.The building is located 20 minutes away from Thane station. The Thane fire brigade, which is located in Panchpakhadi, received a call at 2.05 pm about the fire at Hari Nivas Circle in Naupada.Five fire tenders, three water tankers and two skylifts were rushed to the spot and doused the fire. So far, 150 people have been rescued from the 26-floor building and no casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit.
The fire started at 4th floor and spread upwards. It took fire brigade 1-1.5 hours to douse the blaze. The residents are safe and are currently waiting to go back home.
This is the second fire that broke out in Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Friday. Earlier in the day, a fire broke out in Navrang Studis in Lower Parel's Tody Mills compound. A fire officer was injured while dousing the flames on the fourth floor of the Navrang Studio in Mumbai's Lower Parel on Friday. About 12 firefighting vehicles were engaged in bringing the fire under control, said official sources.
"This building has not been functional for nearly 20 years now. The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building. Operations are still underway,"Deputy Chief Fire Officer R Chaudhary told reporters here.
While the cause of the fire that broke out late last night is not yet known, it is said that the condition of the building is poor, and can collapse at any time.
This incident comes less than a month after the massive Kamala Mills compound fire on December 29, 2017, in which 14 people were killed and 12 suffered critical injuries. Another major fire incident happened in Cinevista studio, where one person was killed.
