The city glittered, shined and celebrated the festival of lights on Sunday. The markets remained centre of hectic activities, as customers rushed to local bazaars for completing the festive buying in Diwali since morning.
The city started sparkling as soon as the sun set and the residents celebrated Diwali with the customary zeal and fervour.
The preparations got underway for the festival right since morning as people eagerly lapsed into festive mood and started decoration in households. The markets turned crowded as shoppers started their last minute purchasing at city markets for completing the festive stock of purchase.
Youths pursuing studies who generally head for their native places before Diwali, were present in the city in large numbers owing to semester exams. The hostel remained abuzz with festivities with the presence of sizeable numbers of students, who celebrated the festival with crackers and sweets till late evening.
All the city markets and shopping malls gleamed with the attractive lighting and rangolis in front of gates. The earthen lamps and candles complemented the electric decoration to perfection. The Rajwada as always shined with traditional decoration while illumination was equally attractive at other markets like Sarafa, Bartan Bazaar, MG Road, AB Road, Cloth market, Chhappan etc.
Traders also performed puja at work places in all the markets.
Women mostly remained engaged in decorating houses and making preparations for Laxmi pujan. Attractive and colourful rangolis were seen in front of most of the households. After Laxmi pujan, the unending spree of bursting fire crackers started, which continued till late night and sounds of fire crackers flew in all directions. Kids enjoyed bursting anar, chakri while the elders mostly concentrated on bombs, rockets and other items that lightened up the sky on Diwali evening.
