FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), the women's wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), organised a lecture on investment opportunities for urban women, at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) on Friday. The Ahmedabad chapter of FLO was launched in April, under the chairmanship of Dr Sonal Ambani.

With the belief that education will help women lead more dignified lives, FLO is working at empowering urban women with knowledge. One such endeavour was the seminar, where Bishnu Dhanuka, founder and director of NGO Millenium Mams, delivered a lecture to affluent women from the city, on financial matters including taxation, corporate economy, macro economy and investments.

Dhanuka says most of us waste our energy all through our lives,
on everyone except ourselves. There is a need to create awareness among women about their potential and enrich them with knowledge. He said, "Knowledge is power, and the only way to women’s empowerment."

The session stressed on informing urban women about investment opportunities, mainly in the stock market area, in a simplified manner. Giving examples of Warren Buffet in the investment area, the ladies present were advised on how they should invest and the criteria to be kept in mind for investing.

"The session explained to us in simple terms that while investing, instead of blindly following others' advice, we should invest in areas that we have knowledge of. We will come up with more such
interactive seminars covering varied areas, in the times to come," said Pooja Agrawal, vice-chairperson of FLO.
