For the first time, drones to monitor Haji Malang procession in Mumbai

The Haji Malang procession started from 7 February and will end on 15 February.

In order to curb nuisance during the procession on the 5-kilometre stretch of the Malangad hill, heavy police force will be deployed this week.

The Thane police department in a first of its police deployment for the procession of the Haji Malanag will deploy drones to monitor the crowd on the five-kilometre stretch of the hill. In order to curb nuisance or stampede like situation the police teams have been deployed to manage lakhs of attendees.

The Haji Malang procession started from 7 February and will end on 15 February with four last days being crucial, the police department have posted 4 Deputy commissioners, 8 Assistant commissioners, 45 officers and 1100 police personnel with two companies of SRPF. The procession witnesses lakhs of devotees from different religions.

"Total of four drones will keep a watch on the activities of the devotees and 12 manual video camera persons will be keeping a watch from the hill top and record the procession and keep a watch on the miscreants", said Sunil Bharadwaj, DCP, Zone 4 of Ulhasnagar.

"This year we have posted more police personnel to avoid any untoward incident on the hilltop and also to secure women devotees", said Bharadwaj.
