The former finance minister has been admitted in cardiology department's intensive care unit.

The 66-year-old old-timer is "haemodynamically stable at the moment" and his health is being closely monitored by a team of endocrinologist, nephrologist and cardiologist, the premier medical facility said.

As the news spread, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited AIIMS to inquire after Jaitley's health. Home minister Amit Shah, health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and other BJP leaders also visited AIIMS earlier in the day.

Jaitley has not been keeping well for some time. He took a three-month sabbatical to undergo a kidney transplant last year, following which he was placed in isolation.
