Kagdapith police on Wednesday nabbed four members of a gang of fake policemen. The four have been identified as Amrut alias Ashwin Solanki, Hiralal Marwadi, Dinesh Kushal and Raju Solanki. They were arrested from the metropolitan court near Gheekanta. Police have produced them before the court and sought their remand.
Raju Solanki approached one 24-year-old Mahesh Joshi who was talking to a girl near Surendranagar bus stand at Gita Mandir. Introducing himself as a police inspector, Solanki threatened him for talking to a girl. Soon, three persons came in an auto-rickshaw, made Joshi forcibly sit inside and took him to Gandhinagar Sachivalaya. The four then beat him up, took away his Rs1,500 and threatened to jail him if he did not pay Rs50,000.
Joshi said he would have to call up someone. He called up Bavku Undhad, Congress MLA from Babra in Amreli district and asked for Rs50,000. Sensing something wrong, Undhad informed Gandhinagar police who reached the spot immediately. But the four sped away when they saw the police jeep.
Joshi then returned to Ahmedabad and registered a loot complaint at Kagdapith police station. Meanwhile, Kagdapith police sub-inspector (PSI) MC Kodi had received a tip-off that a wanted criminal was to appear for bail hearing at the metropolitan court in Gheekanta. The criminal turned out to be Raju Solanki who, along with three members of his gang, was arrested from the court premises.
