In a shocking incident, a fourth standard student died after fighting with a few of his classmates over a geometry box in a government school of Kollapalayam village in Tamil Nadu's Namakkal district.

The incident took place on February 29 when the student, named Surya, had a scuffle with his class mates over a geometry box. As per reports, the teacher, who was present at that moment, advised them not to fight inside the class and told them to go outside.

The quarrel later started outside the class and Surya's fellow students hit him with a stick on his head. When Surya went to his home, he felt sick about which he informed his mother. The parents took cognizance and took him to the Tiruchankoodu hospital. The hospital authorities advised his parents to take him to the District head hospital in Salem where he went to coma.

After few days in coma, Surya died on Sunday. Following his death, the relatives and the human right activists have staged a protest demanding justice for Surya's death. Surya,'s uncle Murugesan said that the teacher did not take proper steps to end the fight which ultimately resulted in his death.

Rangasami, an activist, also held the teacher responsible for the same. "She was sleeping inside the class when this fight happened and she failed to control the students. After Surya was hit on his head and chest by his fellow students, he came home and felt severe pain and told his mom. He was shifted to Tituchankodu hospital and then to Salem hospital, but he lost his life," he said while demanding proper compensation for the family members and action against those responsible for the unfortunate incident.
