In what turned out to be cruel joke that only added insult to injury, two people called up a child helpline and gave the family of missing girl Vishwa Patel hopes that they may finally get to see their lost daughter.

The two demanded Rs60,000 in return for information that would get the worried parents their daughter. The two were later detained by the Detection of Crime Branch after sleuths posing as Vishwa’s parents got in touch with them.

The DCB sleuths set a trap for the two men who had planned to con Vishwa’s parents. The sleuth posed as Vishwa’s parents and continued to be touch with the frauds.

The two were nabbed after they provided the account number in which the Rs60,000 was to be transferred. Incidentally, the two planned to buys some steel from a Rakhial-based steel company, after they were paid the money by Vishwa’s family.

Investigating officer in the Vishwa missing case, Paresh Solanki told DNA that the two frauds had first called the helpline number of an NGO Childline.

“They told the counselor at the other end that Vishwa was forced into a marriage in Rajasthan and was being detained there. However, we later found out that the story was cooked up by the two to get their hands on the money,” said Solanki.

Solanki said that it was Childline that told him of such a call. “I acted as Vishwa’s father and talked to the frauds and convinced them to give their account number where the money has to be transferred,” Solanki said. The duo was trapped after they gave the account number of a steel company.  The police then approached the steel company and asked the owners to call the frauds to collect their consignment.
