Maninagar police on Tuesday nabbed a fraudster who used to humble cops by driving around in a red-beacon car and saying that he was an office-bearer of the state BJP. He would also claim to have direct access to the personal assistant (PA) of chief minister.
Maninagar police inspector (PI) Dineshsinh Chauhan said the man, identified as Dinesh Chunara, a resident of Aagaman Park, Odhav, was arrested from near Maninagar Crossroads. He was driving in a Wagon R car with a red-beacon. Cops stopped him and found the documents he produced to be fake.
Police seized a number of fake visiting cards of many organisation from Chunara. "One of them was that of being a member of OBC Cell of state BJP.
The card featured his and chief minister Narendra Modi's photos. Whenever police would stop him, he would dial a number and ask cops to talk to the person at the other end who, he would say, was the PA of the CM. The PA, needless, to say was also a fraud like him," Chauhan said.
Cops have also recovered another visiting card in which he claims to be the Gujarat and Delhi secretary of Bhartiya Devipujak Vikas Sangathan. In all, police have recovered 21 such cards.
"Chunara used to make these fake cards and documents for himself and others," police inspector added. Earlier Maninagar police had arrested two people for driving in a red-beacon car. They had at that time claimed to be members of an NGO.
Maninagar police have registered a case against Chunara and started further investigation.
