Fresh alert in Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram coastal areas

The coastal areas of Rameswaram and Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu have been placed under fresh alert following the recent aerial attack by the LTTE on various vital installations in Sri Lanka.

RAMESWARAM: The coastal areas of Rameswaram and Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu have been placed under fresh alert following the recent aerial attack by the LTTE on various vital installations in Sri Lanka.

"We may not have any threat, but the Naval Detachment have been alerted. Round-the-clock vigil has been ordered under the fresh alert", a top official of the Navy said.

High speed attack boats, ships and hovercrafts have been positioned at important locations. The landing ports used by refugees were being asked to be monitored by the Marine Commandos and Naval personnel.

Sea patrolling has been intensified along the International Maritime Border Line.

"The Q branch Police are checking all the refugees at the landing point itself", he said.

The IAF personnel at Seeniappa Durgah also have been alerted.

Meanwhile, thirteen Sri Lankan refugees arrived at Arichalmunai near here early this morning and were sent to the Mandapam camp after initial enquiry.
