In a bid to contain COVID-19 cases in Assam, the state government has announced more restrictions and containment measures to be put in place from May 13, 2021.
Under the new restrictions, all shops and commercial establishments will be closed at 1 PM on all days and weekly bazaars will not be allowed for 15 days. Restaurants and eateries can have dine-in guests till 1 PM after which only home delivery of food will be allowed.
Both government and non-government offices have been ordered to remain closed for 15 days. All educational institutions have been closed as well. No physical classes will be allowed and schools and colleges have been asked to opt for virtual classes.
Essential goods can be delivered through eCommerce while following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. Hospitals, pharmacies, and veterinary clinics will continue to operate without restrictions. Public transport can only have up to 30 per cent of seating capacity.
Religious functions and marriages have been allowed with a maximum attendance of 10 people. No reception parties will be allowed post or pre-marriage. Similarly, a maximum of 10 people are allowed to be a part of funeral or last rites related gatherings.
State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that if the restrictions have to continue for more than a fortnight, the government will consider a financial relief package for weaker sections.
There will be a complete ban on the movement of individuals from 2 PM to 5 AM every day.
